Getting Rid of Clutter

I had a realization yesterday- I am a pack rat and a germaphobe. These two things conflict with each other and may explain some of my underlying anxiety.

I rent a storage unit since my condo has no storage space. I went a couple days ago to move my stuff to a bigger unit and there were a lot of critter droppings.

Initially I freaked. Gross.

But I am trying to see it as a sign that I need to get rid of a bunch of stuff. I know me, and I would've just moved the same crap to the bigger unit. No doubt about it.

I don't know why I hold onto things. I found an article that discusses clutter. I am going to try and get rid of more and keep it from piling up.

Oh, and the second unit I moved my stuff to also had droppings (although not nearly as many) and the guy that worked there felt bad for me and moved me to a third place where I found one dropping. So, while I see it as a sign to get rid of my stuff, it apparently is a storage building that has some pest control issues.

The Depends Lady- Who Knew?

I had a great conversation with my grandma. It went something like this:

(we were discussing an old movie directed by Dick Powell, who was married to June Allyson)
Grandma: I hate June Allyson
Me: Oh really, hate?
Grandma: I hate her for what she did to Dick Powell. Dick Powell was the love of my life. I just read Jerry Lewis' book, and June Allyson was in bed with Dean Martin for two weeks.
Me: Where was Dick?
Grandma: I don't know, probably filming a movie. (she tells a long story about how they would see movies when she was a young girl- a guy would come to town with his projector every few weeks and set it up in a hall. She would watch Dick Powell in the old musicals.)
Me: She was in bed with Jerry Lewis AND Dean Martin?
Grandma: (frustrated that I don't understand) No. She was just with Dean, Jerry was with someone else.
Grandma: And when Dick died, and everyone called him Dick, she came out and said "Oh Richard..." (apparently my grandma found this to be phony)
Me: Well June Allyson died a couple years ago.
Grandma: Good. I'm glad she's dead.

This is from, what? 60 years ago?!?!

Day 3 or 4?

I've already lost count of my reduced processed food eating days. But, I'm doing ok. Did have some bread, and some Kashi crackers. The main thing I am trying to avoid is pre-made meals, like frozen stuff from Trader Joe's.

Foods That Help Your Mood

What to eat when you're stressed, tired, or under the weather. here

When to Buy Organic

Best to buy organic with these choices:

peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, grapes (imported), pears, spinach, and potatoes

These ones are considered cleaner (less pesticides):

onions, avocados, sweet corn (frozen), pineapples, mangos, sweet peas (frozen), asparagus, kiwis, bananas, cabbage, broccoli, and eggplants

Day 2

I did cave and have some Trader Joe's crackers, their version of Wheat Thins. Hey, no hydrogenated oils, so it's a little better than basic snacks, right?

Day One

I am trying to eat less processed foods.

So far today-

coffee
almonds
strawberries
brown rice pasta with tomatoes
green beans

It's hot here, so I don't have as much of an appetite.

Can I Go Off Processed Foods?

My allergies have been bad lately, with horrible sinus pain. I am trying to avoid taking allergy medicine. I lovingly stare at my allergy pills, but no- I must resist.

I've decided to drink plenty of water, and be vigilant in taking my vitamins. My naturopath has given me a couple of tinctures to try. And surely regular excercise must be good, seems to be for everything else.

I am going to try to go off processed foods. I don't think I eat that much of it, but those Kashi crackers are good. And, I am convinced I get energy from the processed foods.

Wrinkles While Sleeping?

If you're not already there, you will get to a point when you pay attention to wrinkles. How to prevent, treat and hide.

I just recently read that your sleeping position can give you wrinkles.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) cautions that sleeping in certain positions night after night leads to "sleep lines -- wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin and don't disappear once you're up. Sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow. To reduce wrinkle formation, the AAD says, sleep on your back.

I have noticed that when I get up I have creases under my eyes. Over time, they must become permanent. What a drag!
